How to capture and annotate screenshot on Mac OS X?

Screenshot Editor for Mac lets you quickly capture, annotate & share your screenshots. This is the guide for using Screenshot Editor for Mac.

1. Launch application:

A start window will show up when you launch the app. This start window lets you quickly get started, choose a method to capture your screen, or simply open an image file for annotation.

Meanwhile, the app runs in your menu bar. Click on the Camera icon, you can also quickly choose a capture option from the drop-down list.

2. Capture screen

There are 4 ways to capture screen.

Capture a window:

It will automatically recognize the window when your cursor moves across a window, you don’t have to hide other windows and bring your target window to the front. It will capture the selected window only.

Capture fullscreen:

One-click to grab the full screen.

Intelligent Capture:

It’s an all-in-one capture modes, which includes selected region, window and fullscreen capturing. If your cursor moves across a window, it will select window automatically; hold the left-click to draw a region; move the cursor to desktop to capture the full screen.

Delay screen capture:

Select a region first, it will capture the area you selected within a certain time ( from 5 secs to 15 secs). A countdown timer will show up at the bottom of the screen. This is useful for capturing menu.

3. Add Annotation to screenshot

Once you’ve captured your screen, it will be opened in the Screenshot Editor.

You can annotate your screenshot with customizable and vector-based objects, including:

Line, Arrows &Shapes

* Line – Full line or dotted line;

* Arrows – Double headed or single-headed arrows with the full or dotted line, you can customize the line weight, opacity and color;

* Shapes – Rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse shapes, etc. You can choose fill-only, stroke-only or fill & stroke style. You can customize fill color or stroke color, stroke weight or opacity.

If you want to move, delete, resize, or modify the style and color of the annotations you add, please click ‘Selection’ button — the first cursor icon, and click on the shape before any action.

Free Draw Tool

Select free draw tool, you can draw anything on the screenshot.

Text Annotation

Add any text content using your favorite fonts and styles, apply shadow effects. Click the ‘Aa’ button on the option bar, you can customize font information in the pop-out setting.

Crop Image

Click crop button, hold left-click to draw an area, you can crop the screenshot to the perfect size as you desire.

Apply Mosaic Overlay

Apply a mosaic to blur out a face, sensitive information, such as email address, phone number or anything you don’t want to show in your screenshot with Mosaic overlay tool.

4. Save and share

Click on the ‘Share’ button, you can:

Save the screenshot to your local disk, output the screenshot as PNG, BMP, JPG, TIFF, GIF or even PDF file.

Send it to clipboard instantly, so you can paste it to anywhere you want immediately. Share it via email, once you click this, the edited screenshot will be attached to a new email immediately.

Preferences:

You can set delay countdown time and customize shortcut keys in Preferences setting.
